Plot
Set in 1930s Chicago, Robert Redford plays Johnny Hooker, a young con-man whose partner Luther (Robert Earl Jones), is fatally wounded by a victim of one of their scams. Swearing revenge, Hooker seeks out Henry Gondorf (Paul Newman), a friend of Luther's and a one time great con-man, and together they assemble an army of grifters ready to avenge their friend's death. How this group of charlatans puts "the sting" on their enemy makes for the greatest double-cross in movie history, complete with an amazing surprise finish.
