Plot
Based on true events, this film tells the story of a spirited young postulate, Maria (Julie Andrews), who leaves the convent to become governess to the seven children of Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Von Trapp is an autocratic widower whose strict household rules leave no room for music or entertainment. Maria teaches the children to sing, and through her, music is brought back into the hearts and home of the Von Trapp family. There is a cloud on the horizon though; Hitler is ascending to power, forcing Von Trapp to decide whether to join the Nazi party or force his family to leave their home forever.
