Plot

This film centres on two Americans in Tokyo: Bob Harris (Bill Murray), a middle-aged actor filming a whiskey commercial, and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), a young woman tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). Unable to sleep, the two meet in the hotel bar and strike up an unusual friendship, one that provides a welcome escape from their boredom and loneliness. Charlotte and Bob venture through Tokyo, having often hilarious encounters with its citizens, and ultimately discover a new belief in life's possibilities.
