Plot

Filmed in a crisp black and white, this film is loosely based on the life and career of boxer Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro). Jake's inability to express his feelings pours out as rage and violence that makes him virtually unstoppable in the ring. The same anger also drives Jake to beat his wife (Cathy Moriarty) and his brother Joey (Joe Pesci), and sends him down a self-destructive spiral of paranoia and rage that costs him his title, his wife, and his brother.
