Plot
The epic tale of a woman's life during one of the most tumultuous periods in America's history. Hot-tempered, self-centred, Southern beauty Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh), loves the gentlemanly Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard). However, smug, rebellious, profiteer Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) loves Scarlett. Unfortunately for Scarlett, Ashley marries his genteel cousin Melanie (Olivia de Havilland). Sparks begin to fly between Rhett and Scarlett, and continue to do so throughout Scarlett's first two marriages. Rhett and Scarlett finally get married, but Scarlett continues to long for her adored Ashley. Set against the Civil War, this tragic tale follows Scarlett's life from utmost luxury to absolute poverty and starvation; from her innocence to her understanding and comprehension of life.
