Plot

Professional photographer L.B. "Jeff" Jeffries (James Stewart) breaks his leg while getting an action shot at an auto race. Confined to his New York apartment, he becomes obsessed with watching the private dramas of his neighbours play out across the courtyard. He begins to suspect that the man opposite may have murdered his wife, and enlists the help of his glamorous socialite girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly) his nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) to investigate the highly suspicious chain of events.
