Plot

Set in the 1940's, the film's story centres on Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is sentenced to two life sentences for slaying his wife and her lover. He goes to Shawshank Prison where he meets Ellis 'Red' Redding (Morgan Freeman), the prison entrepreneur. Andy turns out to be a most unconventional prisoner, and his resourcefulness brings hope and change to the entire prison.
